Gas logs are a good choice for what we call recreational use—where heating and fuel efficiency are not a priority. While gas logs provide radiant heat, they are not considered zone heaters and are therefore more appropriate for fireplaces that are used occasionally—such as in living rooms. The addition of a gas log set can reduce the amount of work and maintenance associated with burning wood fires—and they burn cleaner than smoke-producing wood fires, thereby protecting winter air quality.
